PhonePe Crosses 50 Million Merchant Milestone, Strengthens Nationwide Reach
Digital payments leader PhonePe has achieved a major milestone by surpassing 50 million lifetime registered merchants on its platform as of April 28, 2026. This achievement highlights the company’s growing role in accelerating India’s digital economy and supporting small businesses across the country.
With its merchant network now covering more than 98 percent of India’s postal codes, PhonePe has significantly expanded its reach from simple payment acceptance solutions to a broader ecosystem of merchant services designed to help businesses grow in the digital era.
The company stated that this milestone is the result of its long-term effort to simplify digital adoption for small and medium-sized businesses. Starting with QR code-based payment solutions, PhonePe focused on removing the high costs associated with digital payment acceptance, making it easier for kirana stores, local shopkeepers, and small merchants to move beyond cash-only transactions.
Through the PhonePe Business app, merchants gained access to seamless payment management and additional business solutions such as loans, SmartSpeakers, and Point-of-Sale (POS) devices. Combined with strong on-ground sales teams, local language support, and extensive channel partner networks, PhonePe successfully expanded deep into Bharat and brought millions of small businesses into the formal digital economy.
Commenting on the achievement, Yuvraj Singh Shekhawat, Chief Business Officer – Merchant Business at PhonePe, said that reaching 50 million merchants is a significant step toward making financial services more accessible across India. He added that what often begins with a simple QR code eventually grows into access to formal financial services like credit, helping merchants scale their businesses and participate in the country’s digital growth story.
PhonePe’s continued growth is also supported by its range of merchant-focused solutions, including SmartSpeakers, POS terminals, and merchant loans. These products are designed to reduce friction in digital payment adoption while solving working capital and operational challenges for merchants.
